Custom VRChat Avatars & Other 3D Character Work - Closed!

I am a hobbyist and don't work on avatars much anymore.
These commissions will likely not open again anytime soon.
Also, sorry for the incoming wall of text...

Base Options (ask for quotes)
Standard Avatar (Modeled, rigged, and textured)
"Marketable Plushie" Avatar (Simpler style, better performance)
Untextured 3D character model (no rig or UV)
Adding lipsync to an avatar I made in the past
Performance Information
- Standard Avatars will come with a standard mesh and a low-poly mesh.
- "Marketable Plushie" avatars will only have a low-poly mesh.
- Standard meshes will always be under 70,000 triangles. Usually, they are under 50,000.
- Low-poly meshes will always be under 10,000 triangles, and in almost every case they will be under 7,500 triangles.
- My avatars typically have 1 or 2 materials total.
- For VRChat users, use either mesh when uploading for PC, then use the low-poly mesh for the Quest version. Your performance rating should be Good or better on both platforms. However, other features like jigglebones could lower that ranking. I aim for Good in most cases but avoid rankings worse than Medium.
- For other applications, discuss with me before commissioning. It's likely you won't have any issues though.
Included with All Avatars
- A *.zip file containing all textures and the model as a *.blend or a *.fbx. (Standard avatars will have a *.blend, while Plushie avatars will generally only have an *.fbx.)
- My permission to upload your avatar to your social app(s) of choice, provided it follows the app's guidelines. This includes private avatars (only you can use it) and public avatars (other people can use it).
- My permission to modify the avatar (for instance, changing the texture or mesh to match a redesign, adding accessories or clothing, etc) either yourself or by obtaining these services from someone else.
- Permission to share your avatar, for free, with others. Example: sending your avatar files to your friend; sending your avatar files to an artist who you'd like to make changes to the avatar.
NOT included with avatars
- Permission to sell your avatar, any parts of your avatar, or any modified versions of your avatar.
Exceptions: If the ownership of the character attached to the avatar has changed, you may transfer ownership of the avatar to the new owner. (Please contact me if you intend to transfer ownership of an avatar, so that I can inform them of my Terms, and provide assistance setting up the avatar if needed)
- VRChat support (optional): *.unitypackage file containing PC and Quest scenes using Avatars 3.0 ready to upload. Includes Avatar Descriptors and PhysBones. I will send a link to my own video tutorial on how to upload the package I provide, and can assist you personally if you still need more help.
- Neos VR support (optional): Will include *.glb export of model in the *.zip along with the *.blend or *.fbx if applicable. Avatar will not be set up in advance due to how Neos handles avatar uploads, but I can personally try to help you if you need assistance! Don't hesitate to ask for help!
Standard Avatar Customization and Add-ons
I will ask about these during the quote process
Mouth/Viseme options:
- Jaw flap viseme (avatar's mouth opens to talk, very basic)
- Full visemes (lipsync) - more pricey
- Toony teeth (teeth are all connected)
- Proper teeth (individual teeth) - more pricey or I might decline
Eye options:
I model eyes as a "socket" sclera with a floating iris and pupil. These options describe different variations of this same concept.
- Flat eyes (always look forwards)
- Follow-me eyes (always appear to look at the camera)
- Looking eyes (looking functionality with VRChat)
Marketable Plushie Add-ons and Customization
I will ask about these during the quote process
Mouth options:
- Painted mouth (no visemes)
- Flat mouth w/ simple visemes
I don't offer full visemes for this model type
Eye options:
- Painted eyes
- Button eyes
- Flat eyes

- You (the client) will have the responsibility of determining whether or not your avatar follows the guidelines of whatever service you want to use it with.
- Marketable Plushie avatars do not have full visemes because of how the mouth works on them. View examples for more information.
- I only make furry/anthro animal avatars.
- I do not offer NSFW additions at this time.

Digital Art Examples

digital art examples! you can request a specific lining style but I may only offer some of the styles shown at any given time. if you want a specific line style, ask before payment!
if no social media is specified when crediting a character's owner, assume it's toyhouse!

busts & halfbodies

busts and halfbodies here! character on the bottom left is Pop (@oceane_art on twitter) and bottom right is Crescent (wybiebutkgayer), all the others are mine!

fullbodies

if the entire character or almost all of the character is visible it's a fullbody! usually fullbodies are the pieces that get more complex backgrounds!
note, screenshot redraws are REFERENCED, never traced.

reference sheets/images

note - i don't offer shading on reference sheets/images! shading on reference images can make markings hard to pick out

memes, meme drawovers, and meme redraws

meme drawovers / redraws and shitposts in general will usually be flat colored with whatever lineart style i prefer at the moment, but i don't have rules against shading memes or using different lining styles lol. just ask!
note, meme drawovers will be drawn over the original meme, leaving the original background or potentially modifying or tracing the original background. for drawovers poses will be heavily referenced, but characters/people are NOT traced.
meme redraws however are JUST REFERENCED with all new art (background included).

examples of looping gif animations i've done, mostly "wiggly" sketch animations!
check my youtube (linked above) for animatic type examples!
the "wigglies" consist of colored lines drawn with a watercolor brush with no fill.
CONTENT WARNINGS for mild(?) body horror on the 2nd image, and eyestrain in the 4th.

Characters and their owners/creators: Circe (calicocreature on toyhouse), Xera (me), nameless one-off design (me), punk!Starr (me), Lumen (me)

screenshots of my VRChat avatars, as seen in-game. character/avatar owners are credited. any avatars seen in the background and worlds showcased are not my work!additional info about standard avatars below!

Features of standard VRChat avatars:
- Good performance on most avatars! Dynamic Bones, "puppet" limbs, and such can bring this performance rating down.
- Follow-me eyes or flat eyes for any character, with option of 3d eyes for characters with solid-color eyes (no distinction between sclera, iris, or pupil, can be seen on Xera and Gremlin, the 1st and 4th pictures)
- Flat textures. This means no painted shading or normal maps.
- Meshes built from scratch to suit your character. I may re-use pieces from previous avatars I've made if I believe the avatar will come out better that way.
- For characters with extra limbs (like Xera and Gremlin in the 1st and 4th pics), the extra limbs can be set up as "puppet" limbs and follow your avatar's matching "real" limbs. By default this means the shoulder, upper arm, lower arm, and hand but not fingers for puppet arms, and upper and lower leg bones for extra legs. You can request more bones (like fingers or foot & toe bones) to be rigged up, but the more bones that are puppeted, the larger the performance cost.

My "Marketable Plushie" style avatars are quite low-polygon (~7,500 triangles) and are meant to resemble plushies.
The hands have historically been pretty janky.
Character owners are credited! (which is not necessarily the person wearing the avatar)

Worlds these screenshots were taken in: Among Us game, i don't remember for the second one, Oceans Away, the VRChat default home, Midnight Rooftop

Notable traits of Marketable Plushie avatars:
- Excellent performance rating on PC (without Dynamic Bones) and Quest
- Can be uploaded as a custom fallback avatar because of their great performance!
- Small size/short height (scaled by default to about the shortest you can be without having issues interacting with things in a typical VRChat world)
- Either flat eyes with a white shape of your choosing in the iris/pupil, or hemispherical "button" eyes (as seen on Buzz, the 5th plush avatar)!
- Made on a body base and modified to suit the character instead of modeled from scratch. So, less customized than a standard avatar, but can be produced faster
- Either a painted on mouth that does not open or close, or a simple mouth that floats just above the face mesh (as seen in Toastie and Buzz, the 4th and 5th plush avatars)
Note: though the seams of the texture are visible on the second avatar shown, they will NOT be visible on your marketable plushie avatar. I don't do these too often and I had yet to figure out how to fix this issue at the time.

examples of my pixel portraits! most are in the vanilla Stardew Valley style, but more recent ones are in my own style. you can request either style!

Characters and their owners/creators:
unnamed (designed by @Oceane_art, belongs to a friend of hers), Lapsinge/Lapis (@DeerJuices), Sorrel (me), Vi (belongs to @tigerparade),
(formerly @dreamcazt, has now left twitter), i cannot track down who owns this character thank you amino, Karma (@luckichaiki), Ribbon (@enid_mettle),
TV (designed by @FritzKangaroo, owned by me), Isabelle (me), Catdeer (me), AL-X (me)

Terms of Service

I reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason. I do not have to tell you my reasons for declining service but may opt to do so to eliminate confusion. When I decline service, do not request the same thing again please.Unless I have explicitly agreed otherwise, the use of my art or any modified version of my art for any commercial purpose, especially NFTs (non fungible tokens), is forbidden. If you want to use my artwork for a commercial purpose, you MUST discuss it with me before payment and before I start work. There may be additional fees, royalties, or rules involved, and we must discuss these details
(Note - PNGtuber models are allowed to be used on streams without any discussion, provided you credit me with the creation of your PNGtuber)
I will not create anything with hateful or bigoted intent or effect.By default, I assume I have your permission to post SFW artwork online and as art examples on my website. I may ask anyway if I remember to! However, if you do not want your commissioned artwork posted or used as an art example, you should tell me!! I will respect your wishes.**You must be 18 or older to commission NSFW artwork from me. ** If you commission NSFW artwork from me, you will be subject to additional terms discussed before payment or starting of work.Commissioning me means you have agreed to my Terms of Service. Violation of my Terms of Service may result in my refusal to do further business with you.

Payment Policy

Refunds
Due to the custom and digital nature of my work, once a piece is complete, no refunds will be issued. For a piece to be "complete" it must satisfy the specifications given at the time of payment.
I am happy to make corrections if I have made a mistake, e.g. forgotten a marking or accessory visible on the reference material or description you originally provided me.Cancelling a commission: If you want to cancel your commission for any reason, please reach out to discuss with me. If I am unable to complete your commission, I will reach out to you to cancel the commission.
I may refund a cancelled commission, in part or in whole, depending on how much work has been done.
If I never started work, you would receive a full refund; if I finished the work already, then you would receive no refund. (Any other case is up to my discretion.)
You will receive any work that has been done when you are refunded, if it exists.
Digital Art & Pixel Portraits in My Style
I may do a rough sketch of your commission before I ask for payment.
Once you are satisfied with the rough sketch, I will ask for the agreed payment.
Payment plans may be offered for more expensive items at my discretion, if requested.
I will not provide you with the finished piece until I have received payment in full.
Other Pixel Work
As the services I provide that may fall under "Pixel Art" are quite varied, a blanket policy is barely possible beyond stating that I will not provide the finished product until I have been paid in full. If I fail to inform you what my payment policy is for the specific item you are interested in, please ask me.
VRChat Avatars
I require a down payment of 50% before I will begin modelling. Upon completion of the item, I will require the remainder of the payment before I provide the finished product.
Feel free to discuss payment plans with me if you would like for VRChat avatars.

Communication, WIPs, and Expected Wait Times

If you would like to commission me please say so upfront when contacting me.Once we discuss the details, your commission should go up on my Trello within a few days and I will begin work within a few weeks after that, provided that any payment required before work begins has been sorted out.I do not typically work with deadlines. If you have a deadline you need the artwork done by this must be discussed before payment, and there may be additional fees depending on how close the deadline is and what type of art you are commissioning.Generally speaking, you can expect turnaround times for digital and pixel portrait work to be within a month after payment. More complex and/or animated pieces, large pixel art projects, or any 3d work, will have longer turnaround times (I will give you a rough estimate before payment).Note that I am attending university, and my schoolwork always takes priority over my commissions, so during school months wait times will be longer.I will attempt to reach out at each stage of the piece (the checkboxes on my Trello) to provide WIPs and ask you if there is anything you would like changed. If you fail to notify me of changes you want at the appropriate stage of the commission, I may require a fee to make those changes. This does not apply for simple things like if I've forgotten a marking that was clearly on your reference material.

About Me

Hi, I'm vampycat237!! I draw, 3d model, and do pixel art and I kind of like being able to buy things so I do commissions! But I'm also starting to make bases (2d and 3d), and I'm a funky little Starbound modder and stuff in my free time. I'm one of the two creators of the Crylan species actually! You should check them out, I think they're kinda neat!I'm also a university student, which eats up a lot of my time.
During school months I can be hard to reach.

contact

i can be contacted through many means of communication! here they all are :)
note: my discord server is primarily for my Starbound mods, but you are free to join whether you care about my Starbound content or not.

socials

i hang out on the internet in a bunch of different places! anything listed here can be considered an "official" vampycat237 online presence, lol.

bases

below are all the bases ive made! some of them are art bases, some are VRChat avatar bases, some are other kinds of bases like blockbench models for Figura!

currently they're all free to use (f2u) but i'll be making pay to use (p2u) bases in the future that will have more customization options and/or better quality and such!

other projects

the moonstruck logo, a light blue heart tilted to the side with a white crescent on the left side. the heart swims in a gooey, sparkly purple swath of sky and radiates a glimmering pink light.

i'm working on a visual novel dating simulator called Moonstruck!
you can learn more on the Moonstruck devblog or its twitter mirror :)
it's very early on in development so there is no release date.
i'm expecting it to take multiple years to get to the point where i feel comfortable giving a release date
